I’ve been backing projects on Kickstarter for years ~ I love being part of the excitement, and watch what I helped fund come to life. My favorite was the Veronica Mars film project. Watching the funding numbers fly past their goal, and the reactions of the actors and the writer was an amazing experience. Getting exclusive merchandise was just a fun bonus.

Now, I’m sure you have questions, especially if you’ve never heard of Kickstarter. Here are some answers:

What is Kickstarter?

It’s known as a crowdfunding platform, but for authors, it’s so much more. It’s a place where we can share an experience with our readers, and create all the special extras that aren’t possible for us to add on retail sites.

Why Kickstarter?

I can offer new books, special editions, paperbacks, hardcovers, exclusive swag and goodies ~ and have complete control over my product. Kickstarter gives me a place to create and share these amazing products, and gives you the chance to be part of that creation.

How does Kickstarter work?

Kickstarter can be a bit confusing if you haven't pledged before, but here's a basic rundown.

• The project sets a funding goal, and you are only charged if the project is funded

• Each campaign offers what are called reward tiers, giving you the chance to choose what you’d like to get as a reward ~ everything from ebooks, to paperbacks, to limited edition, super deluxe hardcovers. I will also offer exclusive swag and merchandise ~ items you won’t get anywhere else

• Once the campaign ends, and if it meets the funding goal, Kickstarter will charge you for whatever reward level you chose

• Once all the money has been collected, I will contact you, and gather the information I need to deliver your rewards

• Digital rewards will be sent out soon after I receive your information. The physical rewards will be sent out before the fulfillment deadline, which is listed on each reward tier, as well as in the description.

Big Note: When you pledge you will not immediately receive your rewards ~ those are only distributed after the Kickstarter has concluded, and it has been fully funded.

Why are you using Kickstarter?

I love writing ~ so many different genres, so many chances to tell the stories in my head. 

Some of the stories don't quite fit the current mold of the genre. But I still want to write those books, bring the characters to life. Kickstarter gives me a place to share them. A place to give life to books that wouldn't otherwise exist.

Offering these special books on Kickstarter lets you be part of the creation process ~ and I think that's an exciting prospect! Where else can you buy a book, then tell friends and family you helped that book become a reality?

It also gives me a place to offer you all gorgeous artwork and fun, exclusive swag that I just can't sell on book retailers. That makes me happy. :)

Will you be launching all your new books on Kickstarter?

I haven’t decided for my next series, but I do have plans to do special editions and paperbacks/hardcovers of my current series on Kickstarter. I’m quite excited about offering you all new editions and pretty new covers for my older books.
